So better late than never right? I crack myself up. Let's see, it is almost March and I am just finishing up December. Here we go, get comfortable because this my friends, is going to be a long one!
Christmas this year was memorable. We did so many fun things and celebrated in so many ways but the thing we will all likely remember most was how sick our sweet Paige was this year. She had the flu, and the real deal too...INFLUENZA. Paige managed to be sick from December 23rd until December 31st and that sure doesn't make for a very fun Christmas for a girl of just 6 years old. She came down with a chest cold and high fever of over 100 and as high as 104 (while rotating Tylenol and Motrin) for 8 straight days. She was pretty much bed and couch bound for her entire Christmas break from school with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So as I share lots of wonderful pictures you will understand why Paige doesn't look herself at all.
The Children's Theater:

In early December my mom and I took the kids to the Children's Theater in Minneapolis to see their production of "How The Grinch Stole Christmas". It was fantastic! This was Paige's second time to the theater and Quinn's first. Paige was very much into the play and the whole experience. Quinn on the other hand was so scared of the Grinch that he kept asking if we could go back to the car. He eventually got comfortable with the Grinch and enjoyed the show. I thought his reaction was pretty funny and I was grateful that we had secluded seats so we didn't bother anyone. We got last minute seats for about 10% of the regular price by buying them the week of the performance. We were up in the balcony but we had the row to ourselves with no one in front or behind us. Perfect for young kids I think!
Christmas Crafts:
I made a totally kick butt potted winter-y Christmas thing for my front step. I was totally impressed with myself. The icicle LED lights totally make it look awesome at night. Can you tell how much I love it? I will share a little secret (it is still on..yep, almost March and it is STILL on). That my friends is how much I love it.
Our tree in the house looked pretty darn nice too!
We made countdown to Christmas chains! Always a fun thing to do and Quinn actually built one this year instead of tearing it apart as I put it together.
We made a gingerbread house for the first time! I don't think I had ever made one before and although it was super nice to have the kit with everything pre-made and cut and packages for easy assembly for kids. I still had to assemble 95% of it. And man was it a messy thing to build! But after all was said and done it looked pretty nice! Paige did the majority of the decorating after I put together the house and placed the frosting glue for her to attach the candy to. Quinn was very interested in the candy and only the candy. After awhile I just had to find something else for him to do or Paige wouldn't have had any candy left to decorate the house with!
Quinn kept himself busy by making imaginary muffins for Granny.
I made a blanket for my niece Dakota for Christmas. It turned out really cute, I have to say I was very happy with it! I had hoped to make a few more for gifts but this one used up all of my craft time.
We went to the Hollidazzle Parade, it was a warm night so we thought it would be perfect! Apparently so did everyone else and on top of that we were running a little late and unfortunately didn't get the best seats. We will have to do better next year. Do better Aleshia, the kids weren't impressed that they had to watch the entire parade from the backside as they passed us. Oh, and from jail. Awesome seats. Sorry kids. At least Grandma had fun!
We had a nice snow to get us in the holiday spirit! The kids couldn't wait to get outside and make snow angels.
Here are the kids in their pull behind sled for the snowmobile, they couldn't wait to go for a ride!! We ended up using this picture in our Christmas cards.
This was a close second for the cards!
This year the Elf on the Shelf came to stay with us for the holidays. It was a fun new tradition to start and the kids enjoyed it, Paige especially. Quinn on the other hand didn't find it nearly as fun to jump out of bed and search for him each morning. It does get difficult to find new places to hide him each day, our house isn't that big! Or maybe I just need to be more creative.....
We ended up putting up two 2 Christmas trees this year since we hosted Christmas Eve. It is always nice to have a tree in each of the rooms people are hanging out in. We wanted to take a family trip to a real tree farm for our real tree and cut it down ourselves...but for the sake of time and the lack we had of it we settled for the tree lot in the local strip mall. How nostalgic! We still managed to get a cute family picture out of it though.

Every year for as long as I can remember we have gone to the Season's Dinner Play. It has always been something my sister and I did with our Mom and Dad, just the family. As we got older we still kept it just the four of us until a couple of years ago. Now we have expanded our group and it has become a girls night for Paige and I. She is my date as she is finally old enough to enjoy the show while Quinn hangs out at home with Dad. On another note, this has now become the one time each year that I can convince her to wear a dress. She looks so beautiful , even in all black.
Here she is on stage after the show with her cousins.
The week before Christmas Shyan hosted an awesome party at her house with lots of friends and family. Here is a rare picture of all of the cousins together!
And of course, Sisters with our Mom.
Santa and Mrs. Clause even found some time to stop by!!! The told all of the kids a story all about Santa Clause and how he does his job on Christmas night. Quinn listened pretty intently, he was a little bit mesmerized by Santa.
After the story he gave each child an early Christmas gift!!! Paige and Quinn both got the Dreamlite pillows they had been asking for!!
Then Santa made reindeer antlers for everyone out of balloons! They sure were cute!
Dakota was scared to death of Santa...poor baby!
Paige gave Santa one last hug before he left and promised to be a good girl..little did she know that the would wake up with the flu. Maybe she caught it from Santa? Nah....
Christmas Eve 2012
The grand event! We had an ugly sweater contest, it was so funny!
Christmas Morning
Paige was feeling awful today after using up too much energy on Christmas Eve. Still she and Quinn had a fun time opening up all of their presents!!! They got nearly everything they hoped for!
Poor Paige :(
We spent the afternoon at Grandma Jean and grandpa Tom's house. Everyone was feeling under the weather over there too so we didn't take too many pictures. Quinn was pretty excited about his big John Deere truck though!!!
It was a really wonderful Christmas and holiday season despite the fact that Paige was sick. We are so lucky to have all of our family live nearby so we can share this magical season with them.
Merry Christmas!!!!
